The Staff
The staff consists of five horizontal lines and four spaces. Each line and space represents a different musical pitch.
Notes are placed on lines or in spaces between them. The higher the note on the staff, the higher the pitch.
Clefs
A clef tells you which pitches correspond to which lines and spaces.
Treble Clef (G Clef)
Used for higher-pitched instruments: violin, flute, trumpet, right hand piano, voice (soprano/alto).
Bass Clef (F Clef)
Used for lower-pitched instruments: bass, cello, trombone, left hand piano.
